The Town of Merino welcomes Charles Barbee for the new Town Maintenance II postition.
The Town of Merino is now accepting applications for the Maintenance II position.
The Town of Merino has recently purchased approximately 35 water meters from the City of Sterling and has started installing a few to get some baseline water usage statistics. This will help in formulating our water rate plan, and help identify potential leaks where there is unusually high use.
We do not yet have a wand to read the meters, currently they must be read manually. Research is underway to purchase a compatible meter, and to purchase or create a system to track water usage from the meter readings to households for billing.
The sewer lines along Colorado Avenue (main st.), in the alleys between Washington Ave. and Logan Ave. will be cleaned on June 3rd (Monday) and 4th (Tuesday), 2013.
Please take care to place newspaper over your toilet and close the lid to prevent splash-back.
The Town of Merino does not currently enforce any burning restrictions.
The State of Colorado does have restrictions on materials that may be burned, as well as other restrictions. Often during high fire danger conditions, outdoor fires are banned statewide. These restrictions are of course in force within the Town of Merino, and you can find more information at http://www.colorado.gov/.
At a recent meeting, the state Health Department has informally approved a new plan to reduce the uranium in our water supply. The gist of the plan is to treat the water with Reverse Osmosis to lower the level of uranium, with the added benefit that other particulates would be reduced as well.
The difference in this proposal from past RO treatment options is in the handling of the waste water, which would be conveyed to holding ponds and evaporated. The waste residuals would be disposed of in the county landfil, at substantially lower cost than various other disposal options.
