Upon tearing down a building, Ted Pickett and Laura Portenier decided it would be nice to "clean up the town a bit". Specifically, they wanted to help the downtown area not look so run down.
They mentioned the idea to Brad Rhea, who went to work on a model creating drawings similar to buildings that were in originally in Merino. The end design would be a mural painted to resemble the buildings, with other bits of Merino community and history worked in.
Brad had to make sure the mural would fit in the space and look like it was meant to be there. False aluminum fronts were made and place where businesses had been torn down, then painted to follow the model Brad created.
The painting is being done by TKC Grafixx of Brush, CO and is hoped to be completed by June 2013.
